As 2019 comes to a close this week, take some time to reflect. What was amazing about this year? What are you proud of? What did you accomplish? What were some pitfalls? How was your health and happiness? Whether 2019 was an amazing year for you or one you are glad to be done with, now is the perfect time to make a plan for 2020. Plan for your goals, your happiness and your health. No “resolutions” necessary!
Goals: sit down with a calendar, come up with a list of what you want to accomplish and then determine your time frame for each goal. Hold yourself accountable by referencing your calendar daily.
Happiness: what makes you happy? Sounds like a simple question, but it may be tricker to answer than you think. Really take some time to think about it. Write it down. My husband has taught me, “if you just think it, it’s only an idea-if you write it down, it becomes a plan.” Very wise words. If you write down the things that make you happy, you can plan to incorporate those things into your life. Doing things that make you happy is not selfish-it’s healthy.
Health: this is one of my favorite topics! How is your physical health? How is your mental health? Surprisingly (or maybe not) physical health and mental health typically go hand in hand. Physical activity, diet, and sleep are BIG factors in overall health. If you are struggling with any aspect of your health, now is the time to come up with a plan to improve it. Let’s start with exercise/training-schedule it into your week. It does not have to be every day, but you should aim for multiple times a week. Don’t know what to do at the gym? You can hire a trainer or do group fitness classes (we offer both at FLOAT.) Both a trainer and group fitness classes help with accountability as well. Diet is also important when talking about health and I have one word for the ideal diet-balanced. I am not a fan of extremes because they are not maintainable long term. Be realistic. For example, I have a sweet tooth, so completely eliminating sugar out of my diet simply isn’t realistic long term. However, having a piece of dark chocolate every night as my “treat” would be realistic. You know yourself best, so set yourself up for success whether it’s with meal prepping, meal delivery, having your trainer design a plan for you, etc. You can get on a consistent training schedule and have a great meal plan, but without adequate sleep every night, you will be missing an important piece of the puzzle known as health. Easier said than done? No one understands that more than a mom of a 1 year old. The first 5 months of my son’s life were a total blur for me due to major lack of sleep. It has gotten better because he’s on a good schedule, but also because I make it a priority to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Know your number. Everyone has one. You may be good with 6 hours each night or it might have to be 9 hours. Figure out what your number is and try your hardest to get that each night. You will feel more motivated to stay on track with your training and eating if you are hitting that lucky number.
I hope these few words of wisdom will help you ring in 2020 with big plans and even bigger goals. 2020 is the year I commit myself to the daily pursuit of my goals, my happiness and my health.

What a weekend! We are so proud of our client Wendy who competed in the, “Deck the Bells” kettlebell competition this past weekend in San Diego. She competed in long cycle, which involves using 2 kettlebells and performing a clean and jerk.
